Vijaya Bank to scout for talent on campuses

Vijaya Bank, a public sector undertaking, has decided to continue scouting for talent on college campuses across the country.

The bank recruited 893 candidates, a majority of them at the entry level, as management trainees during 2007-08 and intends to take around 750 to 1,000 candidates during 2008-09.

Addressing presspersons after inaugurating the bank’s 1,047th branch at Bajpe near here on Saturday, chairman and managing director of the bank Prakash P Mallya said that campus selection was aimed at infusing young blood into thebanking system. “We are focusing on tier-two business schools and professional colleges in India,” he said.

The remuneration of Rs 3 lakh a year to recruits at entry level being offered by the bank was commensurate with the industry standards, he said.

Udupi Staff Correspondent reports: Prakash P Mallya, chairman and managing director of Vijaya Bank, inaugurated the bank’s 1048th branch at Manipal on Saturday. He said the net and gross non-performing assets of the bank had come down significantly.

The bank was providing online banking facility. All the branches of the bank would be brought under Core Banking Solution (CBS) by 2009, he added.

Chairman of Manipal Media Network Ltd T Satish U Pai, former chairman of Syndicate Bank K K Pai, chairman and managing director of Kurl-on T Sudhakar Pai and the deputy general manager of Udupi Region of Vijaya Bank M Shridhar Shetty were present.
