Mallaya's UBICS Keen On Indian Market

Pune hosted its first meeting of UBICS Inc, the Pittsburg-headquartered IT division of United Breweries group (UB). UBICS has an offshore development centre in Pune where the company hosted its first board meeting ever since the centre was incepted in 1993.
The meeting was chaired by Vijay Mallya, chairman and chief executive officer, UBICS, and chairman, UB group. Sunil Patil, president of Global Solutions (in Pune), Girish Godbole, president of Global Services, and the Directors, Scott R. Heldfond, Manohar B. Hira and T. V. Lakshmi Kanthan were also present in the meeting.

Mallaya said, “So far, we have been focussing on the US. But with the tremendous potential for Indian IT, we started our India centre here in Pune nine months ago. We now have a headcount of 270 people here. We have two product offerings for which we see huge potential – SeeItFirst, a broadband technology product for the e-learning and e-governance space and Ventive-an enterprise resource planning solution.”

Mallaya further added that the company had aggressive plans for making India a strategic centre for its global initiatives. The future plan of UBICS is to have a mix of products and offshore work solutions. UBICS currently has about 275 employees on its rolls and has plans to ramp it up.
