Wound clinic inaugurated at Dr TMA Pai Hospital

Dr TMA Pai Hospital, Udupi, has started Wound Clinic under the umbrella of MAHE, as an initiative to start Limited Access Dressing (LAD) in any wound care in the world. The clinic will function every Thursday from 5pm to 7pm at Dr T M A Pai Hospital, Udupi.

Medical Superintendent and Chief Operating Officer of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal Dr D P Saraswat inaugurated the Wound Clinic. Chief Administrative & Medical Officer, Dr T M A Pai Hospital, Udupi Dr Parvati V Bhat and the Professor & HOD of Plastic Surgery, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal Dr Pramod were present on the inaugural function.

According to a press release from the hospital, wounds and its management now should be considered as a new emerging specialty rather than a condition of disease.

Hence, the scope of this specialty requiring knowledge of causes of wounds, healing process, surgical infection, body immunity, growth factor, and surgery is going to be more than any other speciality. Each individual in the society will have to take some form of treatment for some kind of wound during his or her life.

Some times, if wound is not treated in early stages, may become chronic non-healing wound. Many people suffer from non-specific non- healing wound for many years before they report to us for treatment.

‘‘The primary goal of our clinic would be to bring suffering of such patients to an end by providing aggressive quality care. We also will be concerned with rehabilitation of such patient,’’ the release stated.

‘‘Apart from our caring attitude and surgical modalities, we will be introducing newer methods of wound care that are not widely practiced and our own latest method of treating wounds, the LAD care,’’ release added.
