Digambar hands over around Rs 5 crore cheque to KRC

Margao, April 6: The Power Minister, Mr Digamber Kamat today handed over a cheque amounting to nearly Rs 5 crore to the Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd which would utilize the amount to construct a sub-way that would accommodate light traffic along with three other footbridges across the KRC railway tracks in Margao.

At a function held at Margao this morning, Mr Kamat handed over the cheque to the managing director of KRC, Dr K K Gokhale.

The KRCL will start work on the project by the end of this month and the same is expected to be completed by December end.

The entire project is aimed at decongesting Margao and providing relief to both motorists and pedestrians alike.

The sub-way once constructed will do away with the present level-crossing and solve problems.

The sub-way, costing Rs 2.07, would connect Comba with Pedda-Khareband.

The three footbridges would come up near the old railway station and La Flor hotel. Both will cost Rs 79.74 lakh and Rs 1.28 cr respectively.

The other overbridge that already exists would be modified at a cost of Rs 77.98 lakh.
