Chelmsford High Student of the Month - Swetha Shanbhag

Swetha Shanbhag is presently a senior at Chelmsford High School, MA, USA. She is taking such specialized courses as studio art and advanced placement classes in physics, advanced chemistry and calculus BC. Swetha has been very involved in activities at Chelmsford High School. She has been a member of the Environmental Club for the past four years and this year she serves as the Club's president. She is presently the vice-president of the Key Club and has worked with this wonderful service club throughout her high school career.

She has been a Peer Tutor for two years and this year Swetha is the founder and president of the Community Tutoring Representative for four years and has been a member of the student Council the past two years. Swetha has worked on the school newspaper, "The Voice," and this year is the paper's activities editor. She is a member of the Junior States of America Club, the Indian Club and has participated with the Mock Trial Team. She is also a member of the school's talented Girls' Varsity Tennis Team and was elected Most Improved Player last season. She has volunteered with the school's Recycling Program and the annual Red Cross Blood Drive.
Swetha is a member of the school's National and French Honor Societies. She is a National Merit Semifinalist this year and received the Dartmouth Club Book Award last year. Outside of school, Swetha has given of her time and energy to many organizations. She has volunteered at the public library where she organized children's events, reading programs and cultural events. She has volunteered at Lowell General Hospital and Palm Manor Nursing Home. She is involved with the Westland School's Spring Fair, Special Olympics and the Walk for Hunger. She has also given of her time to the Jimmy Fund Theater Fundraiser and the Lowell Folk Festival.
Swetha plans to attend college next fall and major in pre-medicine with the future goal of becoming a doctor. Swetha is the daughter of Revati Kadelcar and Raj Shanbhag. Because of her outstanding achievements in academics, extracurricular and service activities, Swetha Shanbhag is an obvious choice for Emerson House Girl Student of the Month.
