Konkani Writer M Venkatesh Prabhu Passes away

Mangalore: Noted Konkani writer, stage artiste, director M Venkatesh Prabhu (80) passed away here in a private hospital on Tuesday November 8 after a brief period of illness.

M Venkatesh Prabhu was a shining name in Konkani literature and theatre world. He had been honoured by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy in the year 2002 for his achievements and contribution to Konkani theatre (plays). He had begun penning plays at a young age of 19 in 1944.

Ever since he has written 25 plays in Konkani, 12 in Kannada, 5 each in Hindi and English and 3 plays in Tulu. He had been a egular artiste with Mangalore Akashvani from the year it was established in 1975.

He was assistant editor of Navabharat daily and its co-publication in Saraswat Konkani between from 1942 to 1945. He had been honoured by many organizations for his achievements and service to Konkani and other languages.

He is survived by a son and three daughters. He has donated his eyes to the hospital.
