Model Konkani syllabus ready

The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy has submitted a model syllabus to the Directorate of State Educational Research and Training (DSERT) for teaching Konkani from sixth to tenth standards from the next academic year. Addressing presspersons here on Friday, academy Chairman Eric Ozario said Konkani can be an optional third language in Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts to start with. There are over 320 schools managed by Konkani-speaking people and there is no shortage of Konkani teachers, he said.

Mr. Ozario said the academy will organise a programme to train teachers to teach Konkani using the Kannada script.
