Going Goa

KONKANI film director Rajendra Talak’s movie Aleesha was another surprise item for nature lovers. The film tries to achieve a delicate balance between the exigencies of economy and environmental protection. Protagonist Aleesha depicts the co-existence of an eco-friendly industry with nature. “The threat posed due to the mining industry on the pristine environment of Goa is distressing. The idea struck me four years back when I was in an airplane and I could clearly see the mining area. That’s the time I questioned myself,” explains Talak.

Other than his love for nature, he also wants to bring the Konkani film industry on the global map. “No one invests in films in Goa due to lack of returns. But, after the revival of government policy in 1995, we hope that Konkani films will soon be shown at international film festivals too!”
