AGE Mangalore Observes World Elders Day

Elders should celebrate their old age and not give way to gloom, sadness and unhappiness, said lecturer School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya Lakshmi Narayan Bhat. He was speaking at the World Elders Day celebration organised by the AGE Mangalore at the college auditorium on Saturday.

Old age, like any other phase in life is inevitable and thus must be accepted willingly. Expressing his views on the decline of the attachment in homes, Bhat said that the home which was a centre for all occasions has lost it significance.

AGE executive committee member Dr Satish R who spoke about old age said that the nation has 8 crore people who are above 60 years. As the figure swells, the problems of regarding elders have also increased.

Breaking of families, urbanization, migration, change of values, lack of family support system have all augmented the problems of the old. Further, lack of proper training for those dealing with the elders too has been a bane of the society.
President of AGE Mangalore Shameem Kunil, secretary Raghavan, vice -president Dr Melenta, joint secretary Raymond Crasta, treasurer Mohanan and executive committee member Dr Satish R were present on the occasion.

Students from different colleges and the elders from various old age homes of the city jointly organised a cultural programme on the occasion.
