Konkani writer Sukhtankar passes away

Aug 29: The noted Goan Konkani writer, Dr Dattaram Sukhtankar passed away at his Bandra residence, in Mumbai, today morning. He was 81.

The funeral will leave his residence tomorrow morning. Late Sukhtankar is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi award for his book Manni Punav in 1989. He was also a practicing physician.

The president of Goa Konkani Akademi, Mr Pundalik Naik in his condolence message said that late Sukhtankar was one of the writers who served the Konkani language by staying away from Goa. “The GKA is in the process of publishing a collection of short essays by late Sukhtankar compiled by Mr Madhav Borkar,” he said.
