Konkani Parishad rejects charge

"PUBLIC SERVICE"

MANIPAL: The president of the All-India Konkani Parishad, Basti Vaman Shenoy, has said the parishad rejects the charge of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academi and Mandd Sobhan that it is "fascist."

Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, Mr. Shenoy said the academi and Mandd Sobhan had alleged that the parishad's slogan of "one language, one script, one samaj" was fascist and that the parishad was imposing Devanagari script on the Konkanis of Karnataka. It has never tried to impose a dialect/script on any section of the Konkani society nor has it suppressed them at any stage of its history. A glance through the souvenirs published in connection with the parishad's conferences will prove its liberal approach.
