Shooting of next Konkani film in 2006, says Talak

The producer and director of the national award winning Konkani feature film Aleesha, Mr Rajendra Talak today announced that the Rajendra Talak Creations would start the shooting of its next Konkani film, next year.“The script for this film is in its initial stages,” Mr Talak said, pointing out that the financial constraints have delayed the production of the film.

It may be recalled that Aleesha was recently declared as the best regional film in Konkani language category, when the national awards were announced. The film also won the best director award in the same category.

Speaking further, Mr Talak said that the future of full-length feature films produced in Goa is bright and the acceptance of Aleesha at the national level would definitely encourage the local producers.

He also observed that the state government should provide financial support for the production of Konkani films - through funds and raw material - as they are in their nascent stage.

“The state film policy should be announced by the government, at the earliest, and it should include incentives like 50 per cent grants for film production, entertainment tax exemption, etc” he suggested.

Mr Talak lamented that the producers of Konkani films face problems in releasing their productions in the theatres as the theatre owners are reluctant to make their cinema houses available. A minimum of 8-day theatre booking should be allotted to the producers of Konkani films, he demanded.

He said that Aleesha received overwhelming response at the Pune International Film Festival, and would be screened at the Kerala Film Festival to be held towards the year end.
